Ancient Maya Mathematics and Culture in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
A course for the students of Professor Ximena Catepillan at Millersville University, Pennsylvania.

This course is designed for college level students to learn about ancient Maya History, Culture, and Mathematics as they travel through the ruins of the Yucatan Peninsula. Independent students are welcome to apply. The guides/instructors are top scholars in the field of Maya archaeology conducting ongoing research.

Independent students are welcome to attend the travel course, but to obtain three college credits for participating you must also attend the 5-day classroom component at Millersville University, May 15-19. The classroom component will be a survey of mathematical ideas developed by non-European cultures, 2 hours of lectures per day. After the course, there will be a final 3-hour meeting at Millersville to report on projects. Millersville tuition will also need to be paid; $693.25 for Pennsylvania in-state, or $1630.25 for out of state. May 20, Saturday: Arrival and Orientation
Fly into Cancun, meet at the baggage claim area and bus the 45 minutes to Playa Del Carmen. Check into the hotel and have a look around town. In the evening, attend the orientation meeting and the course's first lecture, A Brief History of Ancient Maya Civilization.

Departure: May 26 - Continental Airlines Flight 365, Cancun to Baltimore (connecting through Houston, and changing planes to Flight 426), depart 12:22pm, arrive 8:14pm

LODGING
Playa del Carmen: El Tukan Condotel, one block from the beach in downtown Playa del Carmen. Hotel services include AC, cable TV, phones, pool, on-site restaurant and access to a private beach club.

Chichen Itza: Villas Arqueologicas, with the boundaries of the ruins. Hotel services include AC, private baths, pool, on-site restaurant.
