Maya Ruins and Rain Forest Ecology in Peten, Guatemala
A travel course for the students of Dr. Margaret Wade at Midland College, Midland, Texas.

This seven day tour and lecture series will investigate Maya ruins from both historical and biological standpoints. Lectures on Maya history, archaeoastronomy, calendars, hieroglyphs and architecture will be covered in the historical portion of the course. Plants and animals of the rainforest and the ecology of the ruins will be emphasized in biology lectures.

February 16, Saturday: Arrival and Orientation
1-2pm Fly into Santa Elena in the afternoon, taxi over to the island of Flores, and check into the Hotel Santana
6-7:30pm Orientation meeting in the hotel lobby and the first lecture on Ancient Maya History.
 
February 17, Sunday: Flores and Lake Peten

LODGING
Flores: Hotel Santana, on the lake shore. Hotel services include AC, cable TV, phones, pool, on-site restaurant and room service.

Tikal: The Jaguar Inn, inside the ruins. Hotel services include fans, private baths, internet, on-site restaurant.
