Maya Day of the Dead in the Highlands of Guatemala
A travel course led by Dr. Ed Barnhart for the students of Dr. Margaret Wade at Midland College, Midland, Texas.
This seven day tour and lecture series will investigate the cultural hertiage of the modern Maya of Guatemala and their illustrious anicent history. Students will learn about the modern uses of the ancient Maya calendar and the ways in which Maya religion and culture still thrive in the highlands. Volcano hiking, boat trips across lake Atitlan, and journeys through the mist covered highlands will give participants the opportunity to experience the region's natural beauty. Visits to museums, jade workshops, and traditional markets will also be parts of the week's adventure. The course will end in the colonial city of Antigua for the celebrations of All Saints Day and Day of the Dead.
